Mulled wine, also known as spiced wine, is an alcoholic drink traditionally made with red wine, along with various spices, served hot or warm.

It has a spicy sweetness that heats you up during the colder months. Gluhwein actually dates back hundreds of years and the name itself, Gluhwein, translates to “glow-wine”, which makes perfect sense because once you drink it you definitely feel all warm or ‘glowy’.

It is a traditional drink during winter and is usually served at Christmas markets, primarily in Germany, Austria and eastern France. But also popular in most other European countries. The base of the drink, mulled wine, is the same but each country has its own mix of spices that they add to it.

This recipe is for 1L of Gluhwein.
