I have always loved tiramisu, and was always a bit intimidated by making it. Turns out, it's super easy - you will need an electric hand mixer or a stand mixer, but otherwise it's very simple.
Most grocery stores will sell lady fingers, the type of Italian cookie used in Tiramisu. If you have a local Italian deli or specialty store, they will definitely have them. You can use espresso or strong brewed coffee, whichever is easier for you. And when picking the cocoa powder to use, go for the good stuff.
I also made this dish dairy free for friend (not vegan, I still use eggs and lady fingers are made with eggs too). Sub vegan ricotta and canned coconut cream for the mascarpone and heavy cream, respectively.
For a recent dinner party I made individual portions of the tiramisu, which was really fun. Otherwise you can do one bigger one in a pyrex or ceramic baking dish and everyone can scoop a portion out.
