The German word "Strudel" means "whirlpool" or "eddy" and describes the flaky crust surrounding the delicious filling.

Here is an easy-to-make version of apple strudel using frozen store-bought puff pastry. Frozen puff pastry makes a great alternative to making homemade strudel dough - a long and somewhat difficult process of stretching the dough thin enough to read through and big enough to cover a table. It is not cheating, it's delicious!

Serve the strudel with a fresh cup of coffee or why not try our German iced coffee. Make sure you add a big dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream to top it off.

Step 4

Fold pastry over the filling and roll up to get a strudel form.

Step 5

Put strudel on a baking tray.

Step 6

Step 7

Cut some diagonal slashes into the roll so that steam can evaporate while its baking.

Step 8

Bake in a preheated oven for 35-40 min until the crust is flakey and golden brown.

Step 9

Let it cool before dusting it with icing sugar.

Step 10

Serve it with some cream, ice cream or vanilla sauce.
